File Naming:
Before uploading, copying or archiving, please remove "illegal" non-standard characters like "bullets" • and emojis 🤪.
Non-standard characters which may not be used are: * ? < > " | \
Note: MacOS will allow the use of characters that are incompatible with archival systems and which are not supported in file or folder names or file extensions. If any are found, they will all be bulk replaced with an underscore. Please review additional folder structure requirements below.
Hard Drive Formatting:
When delivering via Hard Drive, please format either ExFAT or if encryption is needed, NTFS w/ BitLocker. Our next choice is Mac HFS+, and last choice is HFS+ w/ encryption.
LTO Formatting:
If providing data on LTO Tapes, ensure they are formatted as LTFS 2.2 or later. Note: BRU, TAR, MTF, AXF, etc., are not supported.
Checksums:
Whenever possible we prefer that the vendors create checksums during the media consolidate phase so that it may be verified upon receipt and throughout the archival process. Accepted algorithms are: MD5 or xxHash
Cloud Portal:
The portal is the preferred method of providing turnovers- whenever practical. Note that upload speeds are limited to 2000 Mbps maximum. For example, 1 TB would take about 1-2 hours to upload, uninterrupted. Speeds will vary with network activity between the vendor and the portal.
*Uploads may take as long as they need to.
For VFX: Please include final renders and all assets that were necessary in the completion of each shot, including (but not limited to) project/script files, clean plates, pre-renders, video & image elements, mattes, tracking data, 3D models & scenes (assets), etc.
Projects with layers, such as Photoshop, should be un-collapsed. Please provide a neutral 3D file format (.obj/.stl) for each 3D model in addition to the project, textures, shaders, images, scenes, etc.
Where possible, please organize the show’s VFX assets in the order below. However, we prioritize application-to-element linking, so that if / when the creation tool is launched, the elements and scripts will be in the proper directory, and the asset should load as expected. Please do not hesitate to ask and confirm prior to making any changes to directory structures that could break the app-to-element links.
